Twelve-Year Trend: Modest Fluctuation in Counts, Harder Entry to High-Demand Campuses

The chart below plots, year by year, the average GPA of Servite High School students admitted to each campus. It reflects the GPAs that admitted students actually earned; it is not a cutoff. Years with fewer than 3 admitted students have no data point.

Over the twelve years, the number of students from the school applying to UC each year ranged from 61 to 96. For fall 2014, 65 students applied to UC and 36 were admitted; for fall 2025, 80 applied and 55 were admitted. The average GPA of admitted students moved between 3.77 and 3.98, at 3.88 in 2014 and 3.83 in 2025, with no clear upward trend.

The largest changes came at high-demand campuses. Taking three years together, the admission rate for Servite High School students at UC San Diego was 24% for 2016 to 2018 (148 applications, 36 admissions) and fell to 18% for 2023 to 2025 (164 applications, 29 admissions). Over the same periods, UC Los Angeles fell from 12% to 9% and UC Santa Barbara from 21% to 16%. UC Berkeley fell from 14% (84 applications, 12 admissions) to at most 9%: for 2023 to 2025 there were 105 applications and only 7 admissions published by UC, and the 2025 admission count was fewer than 3 and not published. Over the same period, the UC systemwide admission rate rose from 53% to 61%. The additional admissions came mainly from UC Riverside and UC Davis, whose three-year admission totals rose from 28 and 16 to 77 and 29, respectively. Admissions fell at UC Berkeley, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara, while UC Irvine stayed roughly flat (31 compared with 32).

The table shows three things. First, the five-year admission rate at UC Los Angeles is 10% (292 applications, 29 admissions) and at UC Berkeley about 11% (177 applications, 19 admissions published by UC, with 2025 not published), making them the two hardest campuses for students from this school; UC Santa Barbara is at 16%. Second, UC’s published five-year enrollment counts are 14 at UC Riverside, 13 at UC San Diego and 13 at UC Irvine, but each of these three campuses has two or three years left blank because fewer than 3 students enrolled, so it is not possible to determine which has the most; at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara, enrollment was fewer than 3 in every one of the five years. Third, high-demand campuses admit only the top band of applicants: the average GPA of admitted students exceeds that of applicants by 0.40 at UC Santa Barbara, 0.37 at UC San Diego and 0.33 at UC Irvine, but by only 0.15 at UC Riverside and only 0.02 at UC Merced.

Read this chart with care. Admission rates reflect the makeup of each applicant pool, including the number of applicants, the distribution of grades and the choice of campuses; they are not a comparison of teaching quality. In 2025, the 12 private high schools on this site had between 16 and 261 UC applicants; Servite High School had 80, and 7 other private high schools had more. When counts are small, the outcomes of one or two students can noticeably change a three-year admission rate, and the UC Berkeley figure is also depressed because the 2025 admission count was not published. In addition, Servite High School is a boys school, and this UC Infocenter data set is not broken down by gender, so this page cannot compare the school with boys at coeducational schools.

Two Points for Private High School Families Reading These Data

The size and grading system of Servite High School mean parents need two extra steps when reading these data: look at multiyear totals, and recalculate the GPA under UC rules.

A Small School: Single-Year Data Fluctuate, So Use Multiyear Totals

Each year, between 61 and 96 Servite High School students apply to UC, and the number at each campus is smaller still. UC Berkeley admitted 3 to 7 students each year from 2014 to 2024, and fewer than 3 in 2025, which UC did not publish; the average admitted GPA was published in only 5 of the twelve years. UC Los Angeles admitted 4 to 12 students each year. With counts this small, the outcome for one or two students can swing the admission rate and average GPA sharply: UC Irvine received 60 applicants in both 2021 and 2023 but admitted 20 and 10, respectively. This page therefore recommends using five-year totals as the main reference and reading single-year figures only for direction; when a campus did not publish the admitted GPA for a given year, refer to the most recent published year in the year-by-year table.

School Weighting and UC Weighting: Differences in Two Directions

The first direction makes the UC GPA lower. Servite High School adds 1 grade point to every HP honors and AP grade from A to C-; UC adds points only for the school’s 43 UC-approved honors courses, of which 28 are AP and 15 are UC-certified honors courses, with at most 4 points in grade 10 and at most 8 points across the two years. HP English 2, HP Geometry, HP Spanish 2 and HP French 2, all common in grade 10, are weighted by the school but count as regular courses for UC; AP Human Geography in grade 9 is not on the UC list.

The second direction makes the UC GPA higher. The school uses plus and minus grades, recording an A- as 3.7 and a B+ as 3.3; UC ignores them, so an A- and an A both count as 4 points, and a B+ and a B both count as 3 points. For a student whose transcript includes many A- grades, this part of the record is actually higher under the UC method. With both factors combined, there is no fixed conversion between the GPA the school publishes and the UC GPA; the only reliable approach is to recalculate course by course.
