The Servite High School course catalog for the 2026-27 school year is a 36-page PDF that gives each course’s number, length, grade levels and prerequisites. This page starts from the official University of California (UC) A-G course list, adds the grade levels and prerequisites from the school catalog course by course, and includes courses outside the A-G list: theology, physical education, Pre-Algebra and AP Human Geography. First, an overview of the UC list.
UC A-G refers to the seven subject areas that the University of California and California State University require of high school students: a, history and social science; b, English; c, mathematics; d, laboratory science; e, language other than English; f, visual and performing arts; and g, college-preparatory elective. The course catalog states that “all courses are UC/CSU approved unless otherwise noted,” but the catalog and the UC list do not fully match, and this page always follows the UC list.
These courses are designated honors on the school transcript but are not on the UC-approved honors list, so UC counts them as standard courses in admission

School honors courses at Servite High School begin with “HP,” for example HP Algebra 1, HP Algebra 2/Trigonometry, HP Spanish 1, HP French 1 and HP Intro to Computer Science; the school weights them, but UC does not. The course-by-course list follows, along with AP Human Geography, which is outside the UC list but weighted by the school as an AP course.

Graduation Requirements (260 Credits)
The school awards 10 credits for a year-long course and 5 credits for a one-semester course. The following requirements apply to the Class of 2027 and later.

A full-year course earns 10 credits and a one-semester course earns 5. These requirements apply to the Class of 2027 and later. All required courses must be passed (D- or higher), and no F that has not been made up may remain on the transcript; students must also complete 100 hours of Christian service and participate in Priory all four years (8 semesters, no credit).
Graduation requirements and UC application requirements are two separate standards. The table below sets them side by side; the UC column comes from the University of California admissions website.

EDUBUS recommends planning courses to the UC recommended standard rather than the school graduation standard: 4 full years of mathematics and 3 full years of world language. The school’s science requirement is already 3 years, above the UC minimum. Theology occupies one course slot in every year, and Priory is required all four years, so the schedule has less room than at a public high school; this needs to be part of planning from grade 9.
Theology and UC A-G
On the UC 2026-27 A-G list, the 12th-grade Critical Reflections is registered as a g elective, along with an honors version, Critical Reflections (H); neither is a UC-approved honors course. CP Theology 1, 2, and 3 in grades 9 through 11 are not on the list. The list also includes three g courses, Ethics, Ethics (H), and Survey of Social Philosophies, whose titles do not appear in the school's 2026-27 course catalog; whether they correspond to the 11th-grade theology course should be confirmed with the school.
Four-year theology sequence
- Grade 9: CP Theology 1 – Encountering Christ, the Word (full year; the Bible in the first semester and Jesus Christ in the second)
- Grade 10: CP Theology 2 – The Mission of Christ (full year; the Church and the sacraments)
- Grade 11: CP Theology 3 – Life in Christ (full year; moral life and Catholic social teaching)
- Grade 12: CP Critical Reflections (full year; epistemology in philosophy and theology in the first semester, world religions in the second)
In addition to theology, the school requires a total of 100 hours of service over four years. The course catalog lists service hours as 30 in grade 9, 30 in grade 10, 20 in grade 11, and 20 in grade 12, for a total of 100; the Ministry page states at least 25 hours per year, completed by March 31, for a total of 100 by graduation, logged and verified through MobileServe.
Course Selection Rules
This section answers three questions: how the grade 9 schedule is set, how many courses students take each semester, and how students move up to honors or AP courses.

The school’s public pages do not state the add/drop deadline or how credit is granted for outside courses. Families who need to confirm these can ask during the annual individual meeting with the counselor.
Four-Year Pathways by Subject
In the pathways below, CP refers to College Prep, HP to Honors Placement and AP to Advanced Placement.
English
- Grade 9: CP English 1 or HP English 1
- Grade 10: English 2 or HP English 2
- Grade 11: English 3, HP English 3, or AP English Language and Composition
- Grade 12: English 4 or AP English Literature and Composition; AP Seminar (grade 11) and AP Research (grade 12) are electives
The honors English sequence begins in grade 9, but UC recognizes only HP English 3 in grade 11. AP English Language comes in grade 11 and AP English Literature in grade 12, the reverse of the order at most schools. Moving from CP to HP English requires an A- or higher in the subject; continuing in HP requires a B- or higher.
Science
- Grade 9: CP Biology or HP Biology, based on entrance placement
- Grade 10: CP Chemistry or HP Chemistry; Anatomy and Physiology, Physical Science, Marine Science, or Sports Medicine 1 are also options
- Grade 11: CP Physics, HP Physics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, or AP Environmental Science
- Grade 12: AP Physics C: Mechanics or a science course not taken in grade 11; graduation requires 3 years of laboratory science, including one biological science course and one physical science course
Computer courses are listed separately under computer science: HP Intro to Computer Science is taken in grade 9 or 12, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Cybersecurity are available from grade 10, and AP Computer Science A from grade 11. Note that under UC rules, AP Computer Science Principles and AP Cybersecurity are d (laboratory science) courses and AP Computer Science A is a c (mathematics) course. The school catalog does not state whether these courses count toward the school’s science or mathematics graduation credits; confirm with a counselor.
Social science
- Grade 9: social science is not required; honors-track students may take HP World History, and Full Honors students may take AP Human Geography
- Grade 10: CP World History, HP World History, AP World History, or AP European History
- Grade 11: CP U.S. History, HP U.S. History, or AP United States History
- Grade 12: one semester each of U.S. Government and Economics, or one semester each of AP United States Government and Politics and AP Macroeconomics
Honors and AP courses in social science set weighted academic GPA thresholds: 3.3 for HP World History; 3.5 for HP U.S. History and AP US Government and Politics; and 3.8 for AP World History, AP European History, AP United States History and AP Macroeconomics. AP US Government and Politics and AP Macroeconomics are both one-semester courses, and grade 12 students generally take one in each semester.
World Languages
- Spanish 1-4: levels 1 through 3 are offered at College Prep and honors levels and level 4 only at the honors level, plus AP Spanish Language and Culture
- French 1-4: levels 1 through 3 are offered at College Prep and honors levels and level 4 only at the honors level, plus AP French Language and Culture
- Mandarin: the 2026-27 course catalog lists only AP Chinese Language and Culture (grade 12; prerequisite: B+ or higher in HP Mandarin 3 or A or higher in CP Mandarin 3); the UC list registers College Prep and honors versions of Mandarin 1 through 4
- Latin and American Sign Language: registered on the UC list, and the academics page also mentions Latin, but neither is listed in the 2026-27 course catalog
The school states that incoming freshmen who wish to advance in Spanish must take a separate challenge exam. Moving from College Prep to honors in a world language generally requires an A or A+ in the subject, and continuing in honors requires a B+ or higher. UC A-G requires two full years of the same language and recommends three; the school requires 2 years of the same language for graduation. Levels 1 and 2 of honors Spanish and French are weighted by the school, while UC recognizes only level 3 as honors.
