The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) uses the Integrated Math system, with courses named Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3 rather than traditional algebra and geometry. The district compresses three years of Integrated Math into a two-year honors sequence: Integrated Math 1-2 H is the first course of the compressed sequence, and Integrated Math 2-3 H is the second. Oxford Academy uses this compressed sequence as its schoolwide standard track; all grade 9 students begin with Integrated Math 1-2 H, so the school does not offer regular Integrated Math 1. Because the school serves grades 7 through 12 as a single program, the math starting point is counted from grade 7. This page explains the three math tracks and the specific conditions at each milestone. The information comes from the school’s 2026-27 course selection list, the course selection presentations for each grade, and the district course catalog.
Three Math Tracks
Standard track (placed into Math 7 Honors in grade 7)
- Grade 7: Math 7 Honors
- Grade 8: Math 8 Honors
- Grade 9: Integrated Math 1-2 H, required of all students, unweighted
- Grade 10: Integrated Math 2-3 H, requires a B or better in the first semester of the previous year
- Grade 11: Pre-Calculus H, requires a B or better in Integrated Math 2-3 H
- Grade 12: AP Calculus AB or BC, AP Statistics, or Statistics and Data Analytics H
Accelerated track (placed directly into Math 8 Honors in grade 7)
- Grade 7: Math 8 Honors, determined by the July math placement after admission
- Grade 8: Integrated Math 1-2 H
- Grade 9: Integrated Math 2-3 H
- Grade 10: Pre-Calculus H
- Grade 11: AP Calculus AB, or directly into AP Calculus BC with a B+ or better and a teacher recommendation
- Grade 12: AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, or embedded on-campus dual enrollment Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra (MATH 250AC / 250BC)
Alternate track (when honors mathematics is not a fit)
- C or below in the first semester of Integrated Math 1-2 H: move to Integrated Math 2 the following year, then follow the regular sequence
- Following year: Integrated Math 3
- Year after that: Pre-Calculus P or Statistics and Data Analytics H
- Grade 12: an A or better in Pre-Calculus P allows entry into AP Calculus AB or AP Statistics; otherwise, students complete four years of mathematics with Statistics and Data Analytics H
- Students who earn a B- or below in the first semester of Integrated Math 2-3 H take Pre-Calculus P rather than Pre-Calculus H the following year
Requirements for AP Calculus and Advanced Math
| Course | Prerequisites |
|---|---|
| AP Calculus AB | Completion of Pre-Calculus H with a C or better, or an A- or better in Pre-Calculus P; the course selection presentation states an A or better |
| AP Calculus BC | A B+ or better in Pre-Calculus H with a teacher recommendation, or completion of AP Calculus AB with a C or better |
| AP Statistics | Completion of Pre-Calculus P (A- or better) or Pre-Calculus H; offered in grade 12 |
| Statistics and Data Analytics H | Completion of Integrated Math 3, Pre-Calculus P, or Pre-Calculus H; grade 12, includes the Google Data Analytics Certificate, weighted |
| Dual enrollment Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra (MATH 250AC / 250BC) | Completion of AP Calculus BC; grade 12, embedded on-campus Cypress College dual enrollment course |
The school’s course selection presentations use an advancement table organized by current course and semester grade, with conditions more detailed than the text in the course list. From grade 10 to grade 11: a B or higher in Integrated Math 1-2 H leads to Integrated Math 2-3 H, and a C or lower leads to Integrated Math 2; a B or higher in Integrated Math 2-3 H leads to Pre-Calculus H, and a B- or lower leads to regular Pre Calculus; a B or higher in Pre-Calculus H leads to AP Calculus AB. From grade 11 to grade 12: Integrated Math 3 is followed by regular Pre Calculus or Statistics and Data Analytics H; an A or higher in regular Pre Calculus allows entry into AP Calculus AB or AP Statistics; a B+ or higher in Pre-Calculus H with a recommendation leads to AP Calculus BC, and a C or higher leads to AP Calculus AB; a C or higher in AP Calculus AB is followed by AP Calculus BC or AP Statistics; and a C or higher in AP Calculus BC is followed by AP Statistics or dual enrollment MATH 250AC and 250BC.
Catch-Up Windows
The Oxford Academy math pathway has only two windows that can change the endpoint, and both come early.
The first window is math placement before grade 7 entry. The school schedules it in late July, together with registration events. Students placed in Math 8 Honors are a full year ahead and can reach dual enrollment Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra in grade 12; students placed in Math 7 Honors follow the standard track and take AP Calculus in grade 12. This is the only point in six years at which a test determines the track. The school website does not publish the scope of the test, nor any policy for skipping ahead or challenge exams during high school.
The second window is the first semester of Integrated Math 1-2 H in grade 9. A B or higher keeps the student on the honors sequence, while a C or lower moves the student to regular Integrated Math 2; after that, only one path leads back to AP Calculus: earning an A in regular Pre Calculus. In other words, the grade 9 first-semester math grade in effect determines whether the student takes AP Calculus, AP Statistics, or Statistics and Data Analytics H four years later.
Computer Science and Data Science Pathway
- AP Computer Science Principles: the first course of the Software Systems and Development pathway, taken in grades 9 to 10, no prerequisite, counts toward UC A-G category d
- AP Computer Science A: requires a C- or better in AP Computer Science Principles, grades 10 to 11, counts toward category c (mathematics)
- Mobile Application Development: requires a C- or better in AP Computer Science A, grades 11 to 12, the third year of the pathway
- Statistics and Data Analytics H: a data-focused option in grade 12, with a Google certificate
- Cypress College dual enrollment courses such as CIS 247 (Python Programming), CIS 226 (Java Programming), CIS 232 (Cisco Networking 3), and CIS 111 (Computer Information Systems), taken through the district's online courses
Software Systems and Development is the one of the four Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways most closely related to math, and the only pathway that lets students take an AP course in grade 9. AP Computer Science Principles has no prerequisite and counts toward UC A-G category d; AP Computer Science A requires a C- or higher in the previous course and counts toward category c, adding one more math-category a-g course. In the 2024-25 school year, the Oxford Academy AP Computer Science Principles pass rate was 97.4% (38 exams), and AP Computer Science A was 85.7% (49 exams). The latter is among the school’s lower pass rates, so the student’s programming foundation should be assessed before enrolling.

Frequently Asked Questions
When Irvine families compare Oxford Academy with their district high school, is the math pathway the same?
No. Oxford Academy is not part of the Irvine Unified School District; it is a magnet school in the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), and its math sequence is the district's own compressed Integrated Math system. The earliest a student can take AP Calculus is grade 11, which requires placement directly into Math 8 Honors at grade 7 entry, then Integrated Math 1-2 H in grade 8, Integrated Math 2-3 H in grade 9, and Pre-Calculus H in grade 10. The student can then take AP Calculus AB in grade 11, followed in grade 12 by AP Calculus BC or on-campus embedded dual enrollment Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra. Students on the standard track take AP Calculus in grade 12. EDUBUS advisors are based in Irvine and can help families compare the pace of math acceleration on the two routes.
When and how does Oxford Academy conduct grade 7 math placement?
Oxford Academy schedules Math Placement in late July before entry, usually between July 20 and July 31, together with registration events; the specific date is sent to families during the spring semester after admission. The placement result determines whether the student takes Math 7 Honors or Math 8 Honors in grade 7. The school's grade 8 course selection guide lists two paths, students currently in Math 7 Honors choose Math 8 Honors and students currently in Math 8 Honors choose Integrated Math 1-2 H, which shows that some grade 7 students start in Math 8 Honors. The school website does not publish the question types or cutoff scores for the placement test.
Is Integrated Math 1-2 H at Oxford Academy weighted in the GPA?
No. Integrated Math 1-2 H and Integrated Math 2-3 H at Oxford Academy are not weighted courses certified by the University of California, and grades are calculated with A=4. Math courses are weighted beginning with Pre-Calculus H. The value of these two courses is that they compress three years of Integrated Math into two, allowing students to reach calculus a year early, rather than raising the GPA.
At Oxford Academy, can a student who falls behind in Integrated Math honors return to the original track?
It is difficult. The Oxford Academy rule is that students who earn a C or lower in the first semester of Integrated Math 1-2 H move to regular Integrated Math 2 the following year and then continue with Integrated Math 3 and regular Pre Calculus on the regular sequence, one year behind the honors sequence. Students who earn a B- or lower in the first semester of Integrated Math 2-3 H take regular Pre Calculus the following year rather than Pre-Calculus H. The school website publishes no summer bridge course or self-study advancement route; for a student on the regular sequence to return to AP Calculus, the only path is earning an A in regular Pre Calculus.
At Oxford Academy, how does a student choose between AP Calculus AB and BC?
It depends on the Pre-Calculus grade. The Oxford Academy rules are: a B+ or higher in Pre-Calculus H with a teacher recommendation allows the student to skip AB and take AP Calculus BC directly; a C or higher leads to AP Calculus AB; and completing AP Calculus AB with a C or higher allows the student to take BC the following year. An A- or higher in regular Pre Calculus also allows entry into AP Calculus AB. In the 2024-25 school year, the Oxford Academy AP Calculus AB pass rate was 87.1% (62 exams), and the BC pass rate was 98.2% (56 exams).
