The Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP), run by the AMC program of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), is the summer camp that trains and selects the US teams for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO). There is no application: each summer the top performers on USAMO and USAJMO are invited, and during camp some are invited on the basis of exam results to take the Team Selection Tests.
The MAA has not published the size, location or cost of the latest camp. Its 2022 event page said more than 60 students were invited in 2021 out of more than 132,000 AMC 10 and AMC 12 participants, and that the 2022 camp ran June 7 to June 29 at Carnegie Mellon University. Upstream, more than 400 students are invited to USAMO and USAJMO each year, mainly on AIME scores.
At the 67th IMO in Shanghai in 2026, the US team won 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal and placed second. From 2027, the AIME moves to Pearson test centers and USAMO and USAJMO qualification will rest mainly on AIME scores, so students aiming for MOP should shift their preparation accordingly.
