The Rosary Academy course catalog for 2026-27 is a PDF that lists, for each course, the course number, course length, grade levels, prerequisites and the UC category noted by the school. This page is built on the official University of California (UC) A-G course list and adds the grade levels and prerequisites from the course catalog course by course, along with courses the school actually offers that are outside the A-G list. The overall picture of the UC list comes first.
UC A-G refers to the 7 course categories that the University of California and the California State University require high school students to complete: a History and Social Science, b English, c Mathematics, d Laboratory Science, e Language Other Than English, f Visual and Performing Arts, and g College-Preparatory Elective.
These courses are designated honors on the school transcript but are not on the UC-approved honors list, so UC counts them as standard courses in admission

Graduation Requirements (28 Credits)
The school awards 1 credit for a year-long course and 0.5 credit for a one-semester course. The requirements below come from the 2026-27 course catalog and the academic policies page on the school website.

A full-year course earns 1 credit and a one-semester course earns 0.5 credit. A grade of D or higher passes a course, and credits beyond each subject requirement count as electives. All graduation requirements must be completed at Rosary Academy after enrollment, along with the four-year service requirement.
Graduation requirements and UC application requirements are two separate standards. The table below places them side by side; the UC column comes from the University of California admissions website.

EDUBUS recommends scheduling courses to the UC recommended standard: 4 full years of math and 3 full years of a world language. The school’s science requirement is already 3 years, and all theology courses count toward category g, so the UC category g requirement generally does not need to be scheduled separately. Note that grade 12 Economics is category g on the UC list, not category a History and Social Science.
Theology Courses and UC A-G
The UC 2026-27 A-G list includes all eight required theology courses as "g" college-preparatory electives, none of them UC-approved honors courses. The school's 2026-27 course catalog, dated March 2026, marks Christian Scripture, Church History, and Morality as "UC approval pending," while the UC list (updated August 13, 2026) already includes all three. The Theology Department web page still shows the older curriculum: full-year Religion I through III and Understanding Catholicism for grade 9 and transfer students; that course is not on the UC list or in the 2026-27 course catalog, so confirm with the school whether it is still offered.

Course Selection Rules
This section answers three questions: how the schedule is built, when students select courses, and whether courses can be changed after the term begins.

The school’s public pages do not state a maximum number of courses per semester, nor whether outside courses can count on the school transcript. Families who need to confirm these points can ask the counselor during the spring course selection meeting.
Four-Year Pathways by Subject
In the pathways below, CP refers to College Prep (regular) courses, Honors refers to honors sections, and AP refers to Advanced Placement courses.
English
- Grade 9: English I or Honors English I
- Grade 10: English II or Honors English II
- Grade 11: English III, Honors English III, or AP English Language and Composition
- Grade 12: English IV, Honors English IV, or AP English Literature and Composition
Honors English is a continuous four-year sequence, but only Honors English III and IV in grades 11 and 12 are UC-approved honors courses. AP English Language is scheduled in grade 11 and requires an A in both semesters of Honors English II; AP English Literature is scheduled in grade 12 and requires a B or higher in both semesters of AP English Language, or an A- or higher in both semesters of Honors English III. Regular-track students who want to move up to Honors English each year need an A in both semesters of the previous year and must pass an honors placement essay. The English department also offers electives such as Creative Writing, Literature in Film, Shakespeare, Women in Literature, Journalism, and Speech and Debate.
Science
- Grade 9: Biology, Honors Biology, or Physical Science, with placement based on HSPT scores
- Grade 10: Chemistry or Honors Chemistry, with concurrent enrollment in Algebra II or higher; students who took Physical Science in grade 9 may take Biology in grade 10; qualified students may take AP Biology starting in grade 10
- Grade 11: Honors Physics, AP Physics 1, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, Anatomy and Physiology or Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Oceanography, Conceptual Physics, or Chemistry in the Community
- Grade 12: science courses not taken in grade 11; the graduation requirement is 3 years of science, more than the UC minimum of 2 years
Engineering I is open starting in grade 10, and grade 10 students taking it must also take a core science course; AP Computer Science Principles is housed in the Mathematics Department, is open starting in grade 10, and is classified on the UC list as "d" laboratory science. The school does not offer AP Computer Science A. Among honors science courses, Honors Chemistry, Honors Physics, and Honors Anatomy and Physiology are UC-approved honors courses, while grade 9 Honors Biology is not.
Social Science
- Grade 9: social studies is not required; students may elect AP Human Geography, which requires concurrent enrollment in Honors English, honors math, and Honors Biology, or placement based on HSPT scores
- Grade 10: World History, Honors World History, or AP European History
- Grade 11: US History, Honors US History, or AP United States History
- Grade 12: American Government (fall) and Economics (spring) are required of all students; qualified students may take the full-year AP US Government and Politics
The honors and AP sequence in social science begins in grade 10. AP European History is open only to grade 10 students and requires an A in Honors English I and concurrent enrollment in Honors English II. AP United States History requires an A in Honors World History and a B in AP European History, plus concurrent enrollment in AP English Language or Honors English III. Honors World History and Honors U.S. History are both UC-approved honors courses. The social science department also offers electives such as Psychology, Sociology, AP Psychology, Women’s History, Introduction to Law and Criminology, all of which are category g on the UC list.
World Languages
- Spanish I through IV, with an honors section at every level, plus AP Spanish Language and Culture
- French I through III and Honors French II through IV, plus AP French Language and Culture
- American Sign Language I through IV, with no honors or AP courses
- The school does not offer Chinese, Latin, or any other language
Placement in Honors Spanish I is based on HSPT scores; incoming students with prior study may take the school's Spanish placement test to enter Spanish II or Honors Spanish II directly. For French placement, families must contact the director of admissions separately. UC A-G requires 2 years of the same world language and recommends 3 years; the school’s graduation requirement is 2 years of the same language. The level III and IV honors sections of Spanish and French are UC-approved honors courses, while Honors Spanish I and II and Honors French II are not.

For Irvine families: do theology courses at Rosary Academy count as UC A-G courses?
Yes. According to the UC A-G list for 2026-27, the eight required theology courses at Rosary Academy in grades 9 to 12, namely Hebrew Scriptures, Christian Scriptures, Christology, Sacraments, Church History, Morality, Peace and Justice, and Comparative Religions, are all registered in category g as college-preparatory electives, but none of them is a UC-approved honors course. The school's March 2026 course catalog describes Christian Scriptures, Church History and Morality as pending UC approval; the UC list, updated in August 2026, now includes them.
