AwesomeMath at a Glance

Host
Run by AwesomeMath, founded in 2006 by Titu Andreescu, former head coach of the US International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) team; the organization states that it is not a nonprofit
Field
Competition mathematics in four areas (algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory), each taught at Levels 1 to 4, ranging from AMC 10/12 and AIME to USA(J)MO and the IMO; Level 3 and 4 courses are proof-oriented
Grades and age
Middle and high school students aged 12 to 18; in rare cases, younger students with remarkable mathematical and personal maturity may be admitted
Citizenship and residency
Fully online and open to students worldwide; the official site sets no citizenship or residency requirement.
Cost
Tuition is charged per course and rises with the payment date. In 2026: $1,275 by January 29, $1,375 from January 30 to April 10, $1,475 from April 11 to May 7, and $1,575 from May 8 to June 5. Outside the early period, multi-course discounts apply: $100 off for 2 to 3 courses, $200 for 4 to 5 and $300 for 6. Tuition includes all teaching materials and a free book per course. The FAQ says financial aid is not offered at this time.
Dates and format
Fully online, with three three-week sessions in 2026: June 8 to 26, June 29 to July 17, and July 20 to August 7. Each course meets Monday to Friday for 2.5 hours a day (a 90-minute lecture and a 60-minute problem session), 37.5 hours in all, with daily graded homework, assessment tests on the first two Saturdays, office hours twice a week and recorded lectures. Students may take one or more sessions; AwesomeMath advises no more than two courses per session. Class times are set in Eastern Time.
Application dates
There are five application rounds, each with its own admission test, and every deadline is 5:00 pm Central Time. The 2026 application opened December 15, 2025, with deadlines of January 14 (early), February 18 (regular round 1), March 25 (regular round 2), April 22 (late round 1) and May 26 (late round 2, final); decisions come within 5 days of each deadline. Dates for 2027 have not been announced.
Application materials
After creating a student account and receiving a 9-digit UIN, applicants submit the online application form (including short essay responses), a recommendation letter from a math teacher or mentor, and solutions to the admission test; a parent statement is strongly encouraged for applicants under 12. The test is untimed and unproctored and is due by the round's deadline. Students aiming for Level 1 and 2 courses submit Part I (10 problems); those aiming for Level 3 and 4 submit Part II. Returning students, students previously admitted who did not attend, and USA(J)MO qualifiers (with AMC and AIME taken in the US or Canada) are admitted automatically after a brief form, with no test or recommendation.
Size and selectivity
The number of applicants and the admission rate are not published. The FAQ calls the program self-selecting: the test gauges whether a student has the background the courses require and sets which levels they may take, and students who can complete or make significant progress on 4 to 5 of the 10 Part I problems, or 5 to 6 Part II problems, should apply. A student declined in one round can reapply in the next by submitting only the new test. Decisions consider the test, the essays and the recommendation together.

About AwesomeMath

The AwesomeMath Summer Program is run by AwesomeMath, whose founder Titu Andreescu was head coach of the US International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) team. The program is now online only, with three-week sessions of courses in algebra, combinatorics, geometry and number theory, each at Levels 1 to 4, ranging from AMC 10/12 to USA(J)MO.

Admission runs in five rounds, each with an untimed, unproctored admission test, alongside an application form, short essays and a recommendation letter. A student declined in one round can reapply in the next by submitting only the new test. The admission rate is not published, and the FAQ describes the program as self-selecting. Tuition in 2026 was $1,275 to $1,575 per course, with no financial aid at present.

EDUBUS’s view: MIT Admissions lists AwesomeMath among the math programs its applicants like, but its bar is a readiness screen rather than a low acceptance rate, which makes it closer to an intensive competition training course. It suits students already preparing for AMC and AIME. Students who want a summer program that signals selectivity should also apply to programs such as the Ross Mathematics Program or Canada/USA Mathcamp, which admit through qualifying problems and have limited places.

How to Apply to AwesomeMath

  • The early round closes in mid-January with the lowest tuition and the widest choice of class times. Create an account and line up a recommender soon after applications open in mid-December, then work on the test when it is posted in early January.
  • The part of the test you submit sets the course levels you can take: Part I alone limits you to Level 1 and 2. Students already preparing for USA(J)MO who want proof-based courses should go straight to Part II.
  • AwesomeMath advises no more than two courses per session, and there are no refunds once classes start. Check the sample problems in the course catalog before deciding how many courses to take.

Application Support for AwesomeMath

EDUBUS starts with an assessment of grades, competitions and research, then decides which programs to aim for and which to hold as back-ups. We then guide each application form, essay, qualifying problem set and interview, and help turn the summer into part of the college application.

AwesomeMath: Frequently Asked Questions

Is AwesomeMath as selective as programs like Ross or PROMYS?

No. AwesomeMath does not publish an admission rate, its admission test is untimed and unproctored, and a student declined in one round can try again with the next test. The bar is whether a student has the competition math background the courses need, not a low acceptance rate. MIT Admissions lists it alongside Ross and PROMYS among math programs its applicants like.

How do AwesomeMath class times work for a student in Irvine?

AwesomeMath schedules classes in Eastern Time, three hours ahead of Pacific Time. In the 2026 catalog, an 11:00 am to 1:30 pm Eastern section runs 8:00 to 10:30 am Pacific, and a 7:00 to 9:30 pm Eastern section runs 4:00 to 6:30 pm Pacific. An Irvine student can pick whichever slot fits the summer schedule.

Can an international student studying in Irvine apply to AwesomeMath?

Yes. AwesomeMath is fully online, admits middle and high school students aged 12 to 18 from around the world, and sets no citizenship or residency requirement.

How much does AwesomeMath cost an Irvine family?

AwesomeMath charges per course: $1,275 to $1,575 per course in 2026, cheaper the earlier you pay, with multi-course discounts in the regular and late periods. The FAQ says financial aid is not offered at this time. Cancellations more than 21 days before a session are refunded minus a 5% fee; later cancellations are not refunded.
