The Ross Mathematics Program is a six-week residential program for pre-college students, run by the nonprofit Ross Program. Students spend the whole summer on one subject, number theory, working most of each day on sets of abstract problems, learning to communicate mathematical ideas clearly and to write rigorous proofs of every claim. In 2026 Ross ran two sites, at Otterbein University in Columbus, Ohio, and at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana, both from June 14 to July 24.
Ross is one of the few elite math programs that publishes an admission rate. Its FAQ says about 15% of students with complete applications were admitted in 2023, and each site expects about 60 first-year students. The program fee is $7,500, with need-based aid available after admission. Ross is open to all nationalities and admits several international students every year.
Ross describes itself as not oriented toward math contests; its goal is to give students a first step toward independent mathematical research. Its FAQ also names PROMYS at Boston University as the summer program most similar to Ross.
