Frequently Asked Questions
Is the UC transfer GPA the same as the GPA on a community college transcript?
Not necessarily. UC counts only courses that transfer to UC. Nontransferable preparatory courses and courses graded Pass are excluded, and the result is truncated to two decimal places without rounding. The two figures therefore often differ, and the UC calculation is the one used for admission.
Does an A+ count as 4.3 or 4.0?
The highest grade listed on the UC transfer GPA page is an A, worth 4.0 grade points, with no higher value for an A+. This calculator counts an A+ as 4.0; UC review makes the final determination.
Which courses count as UC-transferable?
The UC Transferable Course Agreement for the student’s community college, available on ASSIST, is the authority. Courses in doubt can be left unchecked for now, or an advisor can verify them one by one.
Is the calculated GPA high enough to apply?
A 2.4 for California residents and a 2.8 for nonresidents are only the UC systemwide minimums. TAG thresholds range from 2.7 to 3.6 by campus, and admitted students at popular campuses and in popular majors usually have higher GPAs. Compare the result with the admit GPA ranges in the data center and on the popular major pages.
