The University of Virginia (UVA) Office of Undergraduate Admission has posted its application dates for fall 2027 first-year entry: Early Decision and Early Action both close November 1, 2026, and teacher and counselor materials are due November 8. Early Decision results are released by December 15 and Early Action results by February 15. Irvine 12th graders who include this public university on their early list have about two and a half weeks left.

Who Is Affected by the UVA Early Deadlines

Twelfth graders who plan to apply by November 1. Dates for the three rounds are as follows:

Round Student deadline Teacher and counselor deadline Decisions by Binding
Early Decision November 1 November 8 December 15 Yes; admitted students must enroll
Early Action November 1 November 8 February 15 No
Regular Decision January 5, 2027 January 10 April 1 No

UVA states that it applies a consistent review across all three rounds, so no round carries an advantage. Students admitted Early Decision must withdraw other applications and submit a deposit by January 15; students admitted Early Action or Regular Decision confirm by May 1. Early Decision and Early Action applications are reviewed without senior grades, while Regular Decision review includes first-term senior grades.

What to Do Now About the UVA Early Deadlines

Confirm testing and recommendations. Testing is optional for fall 2027 entry, and applicants who do not submit scores are not disadvantaged; applicants who submit scores self-report them on the application, and UVA considers the best combination of scores. Required materials include the secondary school report and one recommendation from an academic subject teacher; a counselor recommendation may accompany the school report.

Note the change deadlines. Changes between Early Decision and Early Action require an email by 5 p.m. on November 6; changes to school choice or the test-optional decision require an email by 5 p.m. on November 22 for early applicants. UVA does not track demonstrated interest such as campus visits, and it does not accept resumes or research papers.

Apply to a specific school. First-year applicants may apply to the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Architecture, the School of Engineering, the School of Nursing, or the Kinesiology program; students interested in commerce, data science, and similar fields apply through the College of Arts & Sciences. College-list and early-application strategy are covered by the EDUBUS University Admissions Planning service, and essay revision by the College Essay Bootcamp.
