Hamilton College has posted its first-year deadlines: Early Decision I (ED I) closes on November 15, 2026, and Early Decision II (ED II) and Regular Decision both close on January 4, 2027. Irvine seniors have 20 days until the ED I deadline; Hamilton’s Supplemental Short Answer is optional and can still be added after the application is submitted.
Who Is Affected by the Hamilton Early Decision Deadline
The deadline applies to high school seniors applying to Hamilton College this cycle, especially students who consider Hamilton their first choice and are deciding whether to write the Supplemental Short Answer. The three rounds are as follows:
| Round | Application deadline | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Early Decision I | November 15, 2026 | Binding |
| Early Decision II | January 4, 2027 | Binding |
| Regular Decision | January 4, 2027 | Decisions in late March |
Hamilton College states that admit rates are slightly higher for Early Decision applicants, mainly because of the strength of those candidates and their clear interest in enrolling; most offers of admission still go to Regular Decision applicants. The college’s need-based aid policy applies to Early Decision and Regular Decision applicants in the same way and meets 100% of demonstrated need.
What to Do Now About the Hamilton Supplemental Essay
Submit the required materials first. The required materials are the application, the $65 application fee (waivers available), the high school transcript, a school counselor recommendation and one teacher recommendation. Students may apply through the Common App, Coalition (via Scoir) or QuestBridge.
Then decide which optional materials to add. There are six optional items: a second teacher recommendation, standardized test scores, a personal interview, the Supplemental Short Answer, the “Hamilton Hello” 60-second video and a studio or performing arts supplement. The Supplemental Short Answer is available on all three application platforms and can also be completed through the Applicant Portal after submission; the video and arts supplement are submitted only through the Applicant Portal, which opens a few days after Hamilton receives the application. The admission office states that interviews are optional but encouraged.
Write in the student’s own voice. Hamilton’s essay tips page reminds applicants that the essay must be written by the student and that admission officers can tell a parent’s voice from a teenager’s; the best topics are ones the student genuinely cares about. For choosing material for the short answer and dividing it from the main essay, see the EDUBUS college essay bootcamp.
Test scores can be self-reported. Hamilton is test-optional, and applicants who submit SAT or ACT results can self-report their scores. For Early Decision strategy, college lists and round planning, see the EDUBUS university admissions planning service and Five Checks Before Submitting the Common App.
