California’s state college service program, #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, has expanded to 54 partner campuses. The official list includes three Irvine institutions, Irvine Valley College (IVC), UC Irvine and Concordia University Irvine, as well as newly added Saddleback College. Full-time undergraduates join through their own campus and can earn up to $10,000 (pre-tax) for completing 450 hours of service.

Who Is Affected by the College Corps Expansion

The program is for full-time undergraduates at partner campuses who work to pay for school or have financial need, including students at IVC or Saddleback College who plan to transfer to the University of California. As reported by EdSource on October 21, the state announced the expansion that day. The official College Corps page lists the following eligibility requirements:

  • Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate at a listed partner campus.
  • U.S. citizenship, U.S. national status, legal permanent residency or AB 540 eligibility (California’s nonresident tuition exemption).
  • A commitment to the program for the full academic year.
  • A need to work to pay for school or demonstrated financial need, such as qualifying for a Federal Pell Grant, a Cal Grant or the Middle Class Scholarship.

Service focuses on K-12 education, climate action and food insecurity, and fellows serve on campus or with local nonprofits. Fellows receive a living allowance set by each campus and, after completing 450 hours, become eligible for education awards.

What to Do Now About College Corps

Check the campus College Corps page for application dates. Each college runs its own program and publishes its own application process and deadlines; students at campuses not on the partner list cannot apply.

Consider service alongside transfer planning. Community college students taking courses at IVC or Saddleback College to prepare for UC transfer can use the EDUBUS community college to UC transfer service; high school students reviewing costs and aid can read 10 facts about UC financial aid.
