ARML is a national team competition organized around regional squads of 15 students, held simultaneously at several sites: teams arrive Friday evening for dormitory housing and compete all day Saturday. The rounds are Team, Power, Individual, Relay, and Super Relay, with no calculators anywhere. The Relay is the signature event — three-person squads in which each competitor’s answer feeds the next — and it demands unusual trust and composure. Teams are placed in Division A or B, with the top 20 regions required to compete in A.
Eligibility is defined by age and graduation: a competitor must not have turned 19 before December 31 of the preceding year and must not have graduated before March 1 of the competition year. Importantly, ARML has no school-to-region-to-national qualifying ladder; regional coaches build teams and enter them directly.
Two spin-offs are more practical for students who cannot travel. The ARML Power Contest is a proof-based team contest held in two windows — for 2026-27, October 31 to November 15, 2026 and February 27 to March 14, 2027. ARML Local serves middle school, high school, and homeschool groups in teams of six over about 2.5 hours.
An honest caveat: at the time of our research, arml.com had gone stale. The homepage still announced the 2024 competition, the registration page still carried 2019-2020 information, and posted results stopped at 2023. The 2027 dates, registration window, and fees could not be confirmed officially.
