The University of California (UC) admissions website shows that the filing period for fall 2027 transfer applications opened on October 1 and closes on November 30. The Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) filing period ended on September 30, and students at Orange County community colleges such as Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College must submit the full transfer application during this window whether or not they filed a TAG.

Who is affected

Students planning to transfer from a California community college to UC for fall 2027. UC’s published basic transfer requirements are:

Requirement Detail
Units At least 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of UC-transferable credit by the end of the spring term before UC enrollment
Seven-course pattern Two courses in English composition, one in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning, and four from at least two of arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences
GPA GPA in UC-transferable courses of at least 2.4 for California residents and at least 2.8 for nonresidents

Individual campuses and majors may require a higher GPA. The UC website also notes that three out of four transfer students who apply to UC are admitted.

What to do now

Plan the steps that follow submission. Several dates come after the application:

  • December 15: the Transfer Academic Update (TAU) opens for reporting fall grades and in-progress coursework, with a priority deadline of January 31, 2027.
  • March 1, 2027: admission decisions begin, with all decisions released by May 1.
  • March 2, 2027: deadline for the FAFSA, the California Dream Act Application, and the GPA Verification Form.

Check major preparation courses. Major requirements for transferring to UC Irvine are covered in Community College to UC Irvine, and TAG rules in UC TAG. For overall transfer planning, see Community College Transfer Planning.
