Middlebury College’s admission pages state that the Early Decision I application is due November 2 and the financial aid application November 15, with decisions in mid-December, and that the college does not require a supplemental essay; applicants use the essay prompts on the application. For Irvine 12th graders applying to this liberal arts college, the main essay is the only required piece of writing.

What to Do Now About the Middlebury Early Decision Deadline

Finalize the main essay. With no supplemental essay, the main essay is the primary piece of writing admission readers see, so topic choice and revision should be finished early.

Confirm recommendations and grades. Middlebury asks for at least two teacher recommendations, and the school report, counselor recommendation, and transcript come directly from the high school counselor. Early Decision I applicants should send first-term senior grades as soon as possible, and Middlebury makes no admission decisions without senior grades.

Decide on an interview or arts materials. After applying, students may request an optional alumni interview in the applicant portal; for Early Decision I the request deadline is November 8, with interviews in November. Students who are not matched can use Glimpse, a 90-second video or audio statement. Students with arts talent may submit work through SlideRoom, for example 10 examples of artwork from those serious about majoring or minoring in studio art, or two theater monologues totaling no more than four minutes.

Testing is optional. Middlebury is test optional and accepts self-reported scores at the time of application; ACT submissions do not need to include the science section.

Main essay topics and revision are covered by the EDUBUS College Essay Bootcamp, and early rounds and college lists by the college admissions planning service. Cost estimates before Early Decision are covered in Check Net Price Before Applying Early Decision.
