The two courses can be taken separately or together. Placement follows the placement assessment. Each course runs 35 weeks a year, 90 minutes per session.
- Early English L0 (K–G2): expands vocabulary through picture-book reading and simple interactive practice, and builds reading habits. It runs at two difficulty levels, A and B, and the placement assessment decides the starting level.
- Phonics (K–G1): teaches letter-sound patterns and builds phonics decoding skills. Teaching follows the standard sequence: first single-letter sounds and short-vowel words, then consonant blends, long vowels, and silent e, then common vowel combinations, and finally breaking multisyllable words into parts.
How Early English L0 & Phonics Classes Run
Each class is 90 minutes in three parts. It begins with a read-aloud and pronunciation warm-up. Next, the teacher presents the day’s phonics rule with matching practice. The class ends with shared picture-book reading and oral retelling. The teacher listens to each child read during class and corrects pronunciation and hesitations on the spot. This is the main value of a small class compared with a large one.
A small amount of reading at home is assigned after class. Parents only need to listen to the child read for five to ten minutes and sign to confirm. Parents do not need to explain the rules themselves.
Early English L0 & Phonics Placement and Assessment
The placement assessment looks at three things: command of letter-sound correspondence, reading fluency, and listening comprehension. Periodic assessments during the term record changes in reading accuracy and reading speed. Children who reach the standard move into the leveled reading program.
